Russian hackers steal more than one billion records

This attack is the most successful ever recorded with over 1 billion records stolen. What is perhaps most dangerous is that it targeted not only large companies but smaller websites also. About 420,000 websites were victims of the attack.

We recommend that all our customers take precautions making sure such as that no sensitive material is on computers connected to the web.

Another precaution at a personal level is to not use the same password on sites that you access.

What elements contribute most to ranking in Google?

A recent survey of SEO experts sheds some interesting light on the obscure science (and art) of positioning a website well in Google and other search engines - a practice know as SEO or Search Engine Optimization.

What is most striking is that SEO is now more complex than ever - one can no longer do one or two activities and expect to be competitive.

Everybody does pay per click and everybody has a Facebook page. That's not enough anymore:

What does Google look at in a website when it ranks it? This chart shows one overarching point: it looks at MANY things and social is important but not as much as hype would suggest. Are you using a multi-tactic approach to your SEO? (Please click to enlarge)

We aren't SEOs

Amerisol has always been a marketing company. However, sometimes customers and visitors to our site don't quite grasp everything we do so we put labels on parts of our activities so it's easier to get. The main label we've been using the last couple of years is SEO - Search Engine Optimizers.

Let us restate our Mission: Help our customers grow their sales digitally

In order to complete our mission and help our customers sell more we actually have to do a lot more than SEO. Sometimes we find our customers asking us why we are getting involved in issues that don't seem to be related to that and it's because the web and digital media is really much broader than just getting ranking on search engine results. We have to understand branding and audience, communities, engagement, points of contact, language, culture, public relations, customer relationship management, technology and keep pace with all the changes in the internet world.

So, we really do a lot more for our customers and they have 'labels' or industry names also. Here are some of them:

SMO - search media optimization - to get your Facebook, G+ and other social channels in order
PPC - pay per click - paid ads on Google, Facebook and others
Blog platforms - to engage your customers
Analysis - nothing is being done if it's not being measured
Usability - making sure your website is user-friendly and maximizes conversion
E commerce - sell your products online
Direct Email - personalized email campaigns that get excellent conversion rates
Cloud Hosting - speed and reliability are extremely important for a high ranking site
Collaborative Email/Communication Suite - the most powerful and inexpensive way to unify your team
Mobile - it's more and more important to have your site be viewable on tablets and smartphones. We actually build out dedicated mobile sites for our customers
Responsive sites - to be seen on tablets and smartphones
Copywriting - high quality content is crucial for engagement and positioning

This whiteboard shot shows some of the intricacies involved in what we do:

Is your website ready for Google's changes? Panda 2.0 is coming

If you are an amerisol digital marketing customer you know how important Google is in search engine - it's the biggest - and you probably have also heard or read about their algorithm - the logic behind the search results. Google is constantly tweaking that algorithm and it released some major changes last year dubbed Panda and Penguin. Their aim: to improve the quality of search results.

Those changes affected many websites' ranking in Google negatively and rewarded 'high quality' sites.

Now, Google has announced Panda 2.0 - much broader changes that will be released later this year. If your site does not meet their quality guidelines it will be demoted, and some sites will even be removed from the search results altogether.

The following video was just released by Google's Matt Cutts and explains Panda 2.0 in detail

If you are not sure if your website is ready for Panda 2.0 contact us at sales@amerisol.com for a free evaluation by the SEO experts at amerisol.

Google's Penguin to get big Update

Google's Matt Cutts - in charge of being the face for everything search at the giant - said at the current SMX that a new Penguin is being released this year - a huge release.

Penguin is an algorithm created to increase the quality in search results. It is mainly geared at link farms - sites that sell links - that proliferated in the last few years and other sources of low-quality and spammy traffic.

The last release of Penguin was on October 2012 and many companies that had bought these links were penalized by losing rank and some were even barred from coming out in Google results completely.

Matt talks about Penguin here in this video:

At amerisol internet marketing and SEO we follow Google guidelines and best practices to the dot in order to ensure that our customers' websites get the best possible indexation without possibility of being penalized.
