Google's search engine of the future is here - the semantic web - or Knowledge Graph as Google likes to call it.
The idea is that Google starts to see search queries not as standalone words but 'understand' them as each word relates to the other. This type of interpretation means that Google doesn't see 'strings' anymore but 'entities' - nodes and relationships. For example, in the case of 'Costa Rica', Google understands that it is a country in Central America with two other countries and two oceans surrounding it and that it belongs to Latin America and many other attributes.

| Google's Knowledge Graph is the new semantic search of the future. This graphic shows how entities are associated. |
Currently Google reports that their Knowledge Graph has more than 500 million people, places and things and that the things have more than 3.5 billion attributes associated to them.
Users will see results from Knowledge Graph as often as they see Google Maps results.
This is a huge change and will impact all search results from here on in.
